HELCOM MORS databases
HELCOM Monitoring of radioactive substances expert group (MORS Expert group) stores environmental levels of radioactivity and liquid discharges of radionuclides to two databases:
HELCOM MORS Environmental database stores environmental levels of radioactivity in the Baltic Sea, reported by contracting parties in accordance with relevant HELCOM recommendations and guidelines. Environmental database is updated and verified annually by HELCOM contracting parties. The latest verified version of the database consists of concentrations of radionuclides in biota, seawater and sediment from time period 1984-2010 (Database verified in 2012).
Number of samples and measurements in MORS Environmental database, years 1984-2010:
| Samples | Measurements | |
Biota | 3315 | 12582 |
Seawater | 7566 | 17609 |
Sediment | 9728 | 29905 |

Extractions of HELCOM MORS environmental database can be viewed and downloaded in GIS format via HELCOM Map and Data service (under folder Pollution -> Hazardous substances -> Radioactive substances (MORS)). HELCOM MORS environmental data can be accessed also via IAEA's MARIS portal.
HELCOM MORS Discharge database stores discharges of radionuclides from nuclear power plants in the Baltic Sea region as well as Sellafield and La Hague reprocessing sites. MORS discharge database is hosted by STUK, Finnish Radiation and nuclear sadety authority. Discharge database is updated and verified annually by HELCOM contracting parties. The latest verified version of the database consists of discharge data for time period 1952-2011 (Database verified in 2012).
