Projects in the Cluster

Baltic Impulse is a cluster of the following nine environmental projects running under Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007-2013:

Baltic Compass promotes sustainable agriculture in the Baltic Sea region, with the special emphasis laid on reducing eutrophication. The project works in five areas: best practices, investment facilitation, water assessment and scenarios, and policy adaptation.

Baltic Deal aims to reduce nutrient losses from farms in the Baltic Sea region. The project establishes a network for farmers and advisory services in a unique effort to exchange knowledge about good practices and learn from each other.

Baltic Manure aims to change the general perception of manure from a waste product to a resource, and to identify the inherent business opportunities of manure. To achieve this objective three interconnected manure forums are established with the focus areas of knowledge, policy, and business.

Beras Implementation aims to establish ecological recycling agriculture (ERA farms) and thereby reduce input of nutrients and pesticides to the Baltic Sea. The ERA farms are connected to the other actors in the food chain to create the fully integrated examples of local Sustainable Food Societies.

COHIBA (Control of hazardous substances in the Baltic Sea region) project supports the implementation of the Baltic Sea Action Plan with regard to hazardous substances by developing joint actions. COHIBA identified the sources and inputs of the eleven hazardous substances and developed measures to reduce them.

PURE is a project on urban reduction of eutrophication. PURE promotes better treatment of urban wastewaters in the Baltic Sea region and combats eutrophication by enhancing phosphorus removal at selected municipal wastewater treatment plants in the region.

PRESTO is a project on reduction of the eutrophication of the Baltic Sea today. PRESTO improves quality of local waters and the Baltic Sea by reducing nutrient load through transnational investments, education and awareness rising.

SMOCS (Sustainable management of contaminated sediments) project aims to provide support for dredging actions all around the Baltic Sea through the development of guidelines for management of contaminated sediments.

Waterpraxis: "From theory and plans to eco-efficient and sustainable practices to improve the status of the Baltic Sea". Waterpraxis aims to improve the status of the Baltic Sea by assisting the implementation of river basin management plans into practice in the region.
