The Conference will work towards ensuring the most desirable contribution from BONUS, the macro-regional research governance framework of the Baltic Sea region, as a response mechanism to the knowledge needs arising in the course of implementing of HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan. The EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive as well as other key sustainability policies, such as Maritime doctrine of the Russian Federation by 2020, also create a demand for new nowledge that can be met with BONUS research.
The day will take a considered view of defining and clarifying the importance of the research, solutions based knowledge and their societal impact in restoring good environmental status of the Baltic Sea and achieving sustainability of the use of the goods and services provided by this fragile marine ecosystem.
