MEDIA ADVISORY
Final Conference on Addressing Accidental Spills in the Baltic Sea
On Thursday 8 December 2011, the representatives of the Baltic Sea countries will be available in Helsinki for comments and interviews on the BRISK and BRISK-RU projects, which deal with needed measures to prevent and respond to major shipping spills.
The Conference takes place in Marina Congress Centre, Katajanokanlaituri 6B, Helsinki, Finland, between 9:30 – 16:30.
The Baltic Sea countries have been working together in these projects to increase the preparedness to respond to major spills of oil and hazardous substances. The BRISK/BRISK-RU overall risk assessment of pollution caused by shipping accidents provides the countries with a working tool to:
− identify gaps in the resources needed to effectively tackle major spills of oil and hazardous substances,
− plan joint investments on sub-regional level to improve response capacities.
The Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission – Helsinki Commission/HELCOM is hosting the Conference.
