HELCOM-BONUS Stakeholder Conference:
Future research needs of the Baltic Sea

The Sixth HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan Stakeholder Conference and the
Third BONUS Forum

4 March 2013, Scandic Marina Congress Centre, Helsinki, Finland

The HELCOM-BONUS stakeholder conference will address the future research needs of the Baltic Sea. Policymakers, funders, science community and others with a stake in the sustainable management action in the Baltic Sea region are welcomed!

The conference reinforces the synergies of HELCOM and BONUS in efforts related to environmental policy and sustainable development. It works towards ensuring the most desirable contribution from BONUS, the macro-regional research governance framework of the Baltic Sea region, as a response mechanism to the knowledge needs arising in the course of implementing of HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan. The EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive as well as other key sustainability policies, such as Maritime doctrine of the Russian Federation by 2020, also create a demand for new nowledge   that can be met with BONUS research.

The day will take a considered view of defining and clarifying the importance of the research, solutions based knowledge and their societal impact in restoring good environmental status of the Baltic Sea and achieving sustainability of the use of the goods and services provided by this fragile marine ecosystem.

We look forward to welcoming you to Helsinki in March 2013!
