The BASE Project consists of the following components:

 

1.    General activities with input to the upcoming Ministerial Meeting in Copenhagen October 2013

 

2.    Progress with regard to implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Programme, particularly Hot Spots

a)    General analysis of the status of Russian Hot Spots

b)    Curonian and Vistula Lagoons (related to 5b)

 

3.    Eutrophication segment

a)    Reduction of nutrient pollution to the Baltic Sea from smaller municipalities and scattered settlements

b)    Pilot activity within agriculture

 

4.    Hazardous substances segment

a)    The remediation of the oil-contaminated soil in the Kaliningrad port oil terminal

b)    Identification of pollution sources of hazardous substances in the Pregolya river catchment (implemented jointly with 6a)

c)    Identification of sources of pharmaceuticals (St Petersburg)

 

5.    Biodiversity segment

a)    Management plan for salmon in Luga river

b)    Support to management of Protected Areas (PA) of Baltic Sea coast in Kaliningrad Oblast (Curonian spit)

 

6.    Monitoring activities

a)    Assessment of nutrient load to the Gulf of Finland entering from the Russian section of the Baltic Sea catchment basin and transboundary watercourses of the Kaliningrad and Leningrad Oblasts

b)    Development of indicators
